About this journey
This 6-night family itinerary is paced for travellers with children or grandparents, avoiding high-altitude North Sikkim in favour of Gangtok's ropeway and monasteries and Darjeeling's easy, kid-friendly attractions. Highlights include a ride on the Gangtok cable car, the Tsomgo Lake excursion for a taste of high mountain scenery, and in Darjeeling a joyride on the UNESCO-listed Darjeeling Himalayan Railway toy train plus a visit to the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park, home to red pandas and snow leopards. Hotels are selected for family rooms or connecting rooms where possible, and driving days are kept under 5 hours with frequent stops. Meals lean toward familiar options alongside local Sikkimese and Bengali dishes, making this a comfortable introduction to the Eastern Himalayas for all ages.
7 days planned
Land at Bagdogra airport or NJP station and drive around 4-5 hours to Gangtok at 1,650 metres, with a stop at a roadside dhaba for lunch. Check in and rest, with an easy evening stroll along MG Marg.
